WHITE HOUSE EDUCATIONAL DIRECTIVE

Very recently, the White House released fresh federal guidance on prayer in public schools.

Now the SED must report to the U.S. Department of Education any lawsuits or complaints claiming students were denied the right to prayer in their school.  In signing the guidance, President Trump stated that “there is nothing more important than prayer” and called this directive to be a fight against the “totalitarian impulses on the left.”  Students must be permitted to read religious texts and pray during recess, organize prayer groups and express religious beliefs in schoolwork.  The Supreme Court has long held that prayer in public schools violates the First Amendment which bars the government from establishing an official religion.
